Hello Everyone!!
This article was well written and very informative as it taught us how to use proper "Digital Citizenship" when it comes to using technology out in public. This article calls for us to behave, and show our future students exactly how to use technology that will be shown out in public. This article outlines 9 different behaviors that we can use to encourage our students to use technology correctly, and not discourage them from using it at school.
Etiquette is an element that should be taught to our students about where technology is okay, and where it is not. We create rules all the time when we say "No cell phones in class", "No playing games on the phone". If we say this to our kids then we need to lead the way and not use our own personal electronics as well.
Communication is modeled by not only the teachers, but also by the district. It is important to support face to face communication between parents, students, and teachers but also through technology is also key. Meaning that we as teachers need to make ourselves available at all times of the day via online Web tools.
Education should be taught by the school district so the students can become computer literate when they are trying to research for new material. They can also educate kids as to what sites are reliable and what you can look for when we are trying to look information that will benefit us intellectually.
Digital Access is the availability these students have to the ever growing technology we have in our society. It is not made readily available to everybody, because not everybody is able to afford the technology we have. Which is why it suggest that schools and libraries be made public and open for longer hours during the work week, and even the weekends.
Digital Commerce is the way in which we teach our kids how to shop online, and are aware of the safe sites. These safe sites are those sites that will ensure privacy, identity theft, and credit card fraud. Even though they are very young they still need to be able to learn how to shop without any worry as to what they will be able to look for.
Digital Responsibility is the responsibility we have to teach our kids how to be ethical when it comes to online conversations, and online work. It is not okay to spread rumors, viruses, and other harassment characteristics in any kind of way.
Digital Rights are the the rights the students have to express themselves the way they want to when they want to. Of course it needs to be kept clean, but since they are guaranteed freedom of speech and expression it is up to us to show them how to properly do so.
Digital Safety is designed to teach students through a program and training to properly use the Internet without risking the threat of being harmed.
Digital Safety is the methods we use to properly reach our kids to protect themselves from viruses, and other problems that may occur when on an computer. Having our computer properly secured is just one way in which we cab see this through.
